The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has introduced a new procedure known as Udyam Registration, replacing the previous MSME/UDYOG AADHAAR Registration. This transition became effective on July 1, 2020, as outlined in the notification released by the ministry on June 26, 2020.

An Udyam Registration, also known as an MSME Registration, comprises of a government sign-off provided along with a Recognition Certificate and a Unique Number. This is instrumental if you wish to certify that your small or medium business or enterprises is legal and operational.

All the small, medium, and micro enterprises belonging to the manufacturing or servicing sector are eligible for registration under Udyog Aadhaar.

What type of business comes under Udyam/MSME?

An enterprise shall be classified as a micro, small or medium enterprise on the basis of the following criteria, namely: —

    • (i) a micro enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed one crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore rupees;
    • (ii) a small enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed ten crore rupees and turnover does not exceed fifty crore rupees; and
    • (iii) a medium enterprise, where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed fifty crore rupees and turnover does not exceed two hundred and fifty crore rupees.

How many days will it take to get an Udyam registration certificate?

After completion of the process of registration, a certificate will be issued online. This certificate will have a dynamic QR Code from which the web page on our Portal and details about the enterprise can be accessed. There will be no need for renewal of Registration.

It generally takes four or five days after submitting the application. You receive an email notification with your registration number. At times, the process may take more than 15 days to complete.
